Hot Cool Surprise

Four Golden Spoons

I had looked at the menu on-line and actually wasn’t very impressed, but decided to go ahead give this restaurant a try. It’s just off the pool of the trendy Riviera Hotel. It was over 100 degrees outside the night we choose to visit, but the cool black and red interior with its massive matching chandeliers and hip furnishings made for a “chill” hip and luxurious vibe. We were seated in a plush high-back booth and were quickly greeted by our waiter, Lance. We started with martinis which Lance was kind enough to deliver with olives hand-stuffed to order with blue cheese.

Yum. Lance explained menu items with mouth-watering details about preparation and ingredients. The basic menu listings came to life with Lance’s perfect pitch making it difficult to make decisions. However, I decided on the arugula salad with Point Reyes Blue Cheese mousse, poached pears and candied walnuts. The presentation was superb and flavor profile absolutely exquisite. Other guests had the Caesar Salad with dressing made to order from imported anchovy oil and Tomato Salad with feta and sherry vinegar.

Everyone at the table shared and were genuinely impressed with the taste and texture combinations. For a main course, I had the Seared Ahi Tuna. One of the best I’ve ever had. Served on a bed of coconut rice with an avocado wasabi puree and sweet hot papaya salad. The tuna cut was generous and clearly the best sushi grade. The accompaniments were perfectly matched making this a refreshingly delicious dish. Another guest ordered the Roquefort Cheese Crusted Filet with short-rib with potato puree. Sublime.

We added a shared side-dish of Lobster, Truffle, Mac and Cheese. I usually steer clear of these gimmicky menu items, but Lance suggested otherwise. He was right. One of the most delicious and decadent dishes ever!!! We ended the evening with a lovely Bread Pudding with berries and ice cream. Nice, but when compared to the other completely off-the-charts dishes, it was not as impressive. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about Circa 59! You will not be disappointed. Exceptional atmosphere, service, and cuisine. You can’t ask for more. Definitely a hot cool surprise.
