Four Golden Spoons
A surprising find in a colorful setting. For over 100 years, many have known of the Flower Market Café at 6th and Bryant for it’s terrific homestyle breakfasts and hearty lunch fare, but few have discovered the exceptional cuisine now offered for dinner. Proprietors Mark Bechelli and Robert Rossi began offering dinner service just over a year ago, recruiting renowned Executive Chef Salvatore DiGrande to craft an extensive Italian/Continental menu. Chef Salvatore (he prefers to be called by his first name) brings a long family history and over 40 years of San Francisco restaurant experience to the job.
He joined the Flower Market Café from the famous Mama’s restaurants in San Francisco where he delighted locals and tourists alike with his mouthwatering recipes for over two decades. The Dinner Menu at the Flower Market Café boasts dozens of prepared-to-order dishes from traditional grilled fish, poultry, and meats to wide range of pastas and Italian specialties. The Funghi Saltati appetizer ($6.50), a generous portion of fresh mushrooms sautéed with butter, onions, fresh herbs and wine, is outstanding and the Bruschetta ($5.95), toasted Pugliese bread topped fresh tomatoes, garlic, basil, extra virgin olive oil and blue cheese, is delicious. The Butterflied Prawns ($16.50), Salvatore’s signature dish, features large prawns sautéed with an extraordinary garlic lemon butter sauce.
The New York Pepper Steak ($17.95) is blanketed in a light creamy cracked peppercorn sauce with juniper berries and the Linguine Tuttomare (16.50) features fresh clams, mussels, and shrimp in a zesty homemade garlic tomato sauce. Lead waiters Caesar and Henry provide exceptional service and have been working with Salvatore for many years. The dessert list is extensive, there is a full bar, and evening parking is complimentary with over 100 spaces (rare in San Francisco). Dinner is served Tuesday thru Saturday.
